Winsome Disciples

Are you friendly? Would people say you are a welcome face to see and voice to hear? Does grace and patience characterize you in every circumstance, even when people oppose you? Just consider the ways the New Testament describes the posture of Christ-followers towards those outside of Christ:  

“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt” (Colossians 4:6)

“Always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect” (1 Peter 3:15)

“Give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all” (Romans 12:17)

“Live peaceably with all” (Romans 12:18)

“Overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21)

“Walk properly before outsiders” (1 Thessalonians 4:12)

“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44)

“Kind to everyone … patiently enduring evil” (2 Timothy 2:24)

“Correcting his opponents with gentleness” (2 Timothy 2:25) 

Now, be willing to measure your behavior, speech, and heart posture against these statements. Before you ever even open your mouth to speak about the Gospel, you are communicating something. May it be a silent witness that is delightful, winsome, kind and selfless, so that when you open your mouth to be a truth-speaking witness, they are ready to listen.
