Not To Us

I can’t dwell on Psalm 115:1 enough in my life and ministry. “Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!” My life is not about me. I am not master of my life, controller of my destiny, or dictator of my daily circumstances, therefore, plain and simple, I am a weak man under the authority and sovereign grace of the God of all creation. That means no praise or glory is rightly directed to me. Anything of any usefulness or encouragement to another is simply God’s kindness and grace to use me as a “broken clay pot” for His eternal purposes. Now listen, this isn’t about living in insecurity, indifference, or with lack of courage and conviction. It is just living for the glory of God alone! We are glory-thieves and selfish praise-seekers, who don’t have to work hard to make much of ourselves. My heart longs for nothing more than to fall behind the shadow of my King, where He is all people see, and I am safe and secure doing His bidding each day. I pray that for you, my friend! May we rest in the place we have been given in this world, maximizing our days, and pointing to the Story of His Glory with our every thought, word and deed. “Not to us O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory!”
