Ways to Be Watchful
Mark chapter thirteen is one of the chapters in the New Testament devoted to eschatological teaching. It is also a chapter chocked full of imperatives to “Be on guard”. If the motivation of Jesus in teaching the disciples about the future was not for irrelevant information but expectant living, then what can we do to live with watchfulness in our lives today.
Rehearse the promises of the glorious return of Christ in your daily prayers.
Sing songs that exalt in the second coming where Jesus returns as conquering King.
Face trials, suffering, and injustice confident that all things will one day be made right.
Don’t let fear control your “here-and-now” because the believer’s future is glory.
Fight diligently against sin now knowing it will be forever eliminated one day.
Have courage in mission because there will be a great gathering of the elect at the end.
Let your praise be fueled by the hope of heaven, never halfhearted or lacking affections.
. Endurance, steadfastness, and patience must be the posture of the saint’s heart.
Have your go-to “God wins” passages of Scripture committed to memory.
Each day seek to encourage or warn one person with the return of the King.
“Be on guard; I have told you all things beforehand.” (Mark 13:23) The King has told us the future, now we must live like it!
