God Rested

“And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So, God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.” (Genesis 2:2-23)

“It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel that in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.” (Exodus 31:17)

“For whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.” (Hebrews 4:10)

God’s rest was not from a place of exhaustion or fatigue, but of completion and satisfaction. Therefore, the rest He invites us into is far deeper than sleeping in and heading to the beach (though those are beautiful gifts). He both set a pattern to remind us of our weaknesses met in Christ and supplies the eternal source of refreshment that our souls need. Thank you, Lord, for the rest of the Gospel!
