Created to Create

Our creative God created His creatures creatively. From strange looking seas creatures that haunt the deeps no eye has ever seen to obscure insects creeping in the crevices of dense rain forests, God created creatively. The highpoint of His creation? Men and women created “in His image” (Genesis 1:27). His creativity not only created creative creatures but created creatures to be creative. Image-bearing men and women were hard-wired for beauty and throughout history the beauty they have created has found much of its focus and content on the rich truths and stories of the Creator Himself. From music, to art, to literature, Biblical themes and stories have captured the mind’s eye of those we now call “creatives”. From Michelangelo’s David to Handel’s Messiah, history is full of the beautiful works created at the hands of those created in the image of the Creator. What about you? You may not fancy yourself musical or artistic but creating beauty and enjoying beauty is part of the wonder to be enjoyed by all in the world He made. You don’t have to be brilliant or even share what you create with anyone. But go be creative! Take a picture, draw a scene, write a poem … find ways in your days to creatively enjoy the Creator in all His goodness and beauty!

I love it when people do this. Sammy Saba shared a poem he composed based on the text from Sunday’s sermon (Mark 12:1-12). He graciously shared it with me and gave me permission to share it with you. May the creativity of your brother inspire your creativity. Give it a read HERE.
