A WISDOM EXPERT

Do you like watching cooking shows? Learning from top chefs and experienced restaurateurs? How about home remodeling shows? Watching expert designers and contractors remodel a dump into a beauty? If you care about growing in wisdom and discernment, insight and understanding, you’ll want to read the Proverbs … regularly. Solomon is better than Bobby Flay, Martha Stewart, and Chip and Joanna Gaines. His show (ok, book) is chock full of expert advice, no, scratch that – Godly advice. As men and women on a path to maturity, we need the wise input of those who have gone before us. Let me suggest King Solomon as a wise mentor in your life. Consider a deep-dive study in Proverbs (I love Derek Kidner’s commentary) or reading a chapter a day through the summer and journaling the wisdom you gain. “Fearing the Lord is the beginning of discernment, but fools have despised wisdom and moral instruction.” (Proverbs 1:7 NET) Fearing the Lord is not being afraid of God but rather being in awe of Him. So, start with awe, move to wisdom, and grow in obedience. This is a great journey towards much spiritual fruit. Enjoy it!
